Hardscaping & landscaping in Washington Township

Washington Township in Gloucester County grew from a handful of isolated housing areas in the 1960s into one of South Jersey's larger suburbs, with neighborhoods spread across Turnersville, Sewell, Hurffville, Grenloch and Bells Lake. Many homes date from the 1970s through the '90s, and lots in areas like Hurffville often run a quarter-acre to three-quarters of an acre or more.

Bigger yards mean bigger opportunities. We build paver walkways, driveway borders and backyard patios, retaining walls that turn a slope into usable space, and full landscape installations. We've completed paver projects right here in the township, like the walkway pictured on this page.

Washington Township requires zoning permits for patios and a permit for tree planting and removal, so we include the permit step in every project plan.

Good to Know

Landscaping in Washington Township: local notes

Patio & tree permits

Washington Township requires a zoning permit for patios, fences, pools and decks, and has a permit for tree planting and removal. We handle the application as part of the project.

Summer watering rules

From May through mid-September, WTMUA customers east of Egg Harbor Road water on odd days and west on even days, with no non-essential outdoor use from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Leaf & brush collection

The township picks up loose leaves (no grass, sticks or pine needles) roughly every two weeks from late October through April, the day after trash day. Brush goes in the green township can or to the Municipal Yard on Saturdays.

Retaining walls

Under New Jersey's Uniform Construction Code, a retaining wall (or a stepped series of walls) 4 feet tall or more, measured from the bottom of the footing, needs a construction permit. We design walls with that in mind and handle the paperwork when a permit is required.

Local rules change. We confirm permits and requirements with Washington Township before any job that needs them.

“P&F have been my lawn service for 3 years now. They never disappoint. They are always on schedule and they do a great job on my lawn. Because of my lack of time, my flower bed had a lot of weeds growing, and it was too much for me to tackle so that I could plant my flowers for the summer. P&F came and weeded my flower bed and laid down mulch for me. They are very professional and very kind. I would recommend them to anyone who needs lawn service or landscaping done.”

“This team does an awesome job! They are very professional and detail oriented. I have used 5 different companies this year and this is the first to actually listen and cut at the height I requested. Pablo is a true professional that puts the client first and his team is very meticulous and detail oriented. They do “top notch” work. The lawn looks like a lush green carpet. I will be using them for other projects. If I could rate them a 10, I would.”

“I can't say enough good things about P&F Lawn Care. I work for a nonprofit preschool and reached out to David a few months ago as we needed a new lawn service. From day one, they have provided excellent service, proven to be extremely responsive and go above and beyond to accommodate all our needs. I have not hesitated to recommend them to friends as well. Thank you David and P&F Lawn Care for your exceptional work ethic and commitment to providing high quality service! We couldn't be happier!!!”
