Mulch Service

What to expect from P&F

Nothing freshens up a property faster than clean edges and a new layer of mulch. It is also one of the best things you can do for your plants, especially in our fast-draining South Jersey soil.

Our mulch service starts with the beds, not the bags. We pull weeds, clear out debris, cut a sharp edge between bed and lawn, and then spread mulch at a depth that actually helps. Customers often tell us the beds look brand new when we are done.

We do mulch jobs across Cherry Hill, Voorhees, Haddonfield and the surrounding towns, as a one-time spring refresh or as part of a seasonal clean-up. Every estimate is free and itemized, so you know exactly what you are getting. We are careful around your plants, lighting and hardscape, and we leave the driveway and walks clean. If a bed needs more than mulch, such as overgrown shrubs or tired plants, we will point it out so you can decide whether to handle it now or later.

How It Works

Our mulch service process

STEP 01

Walk the beds

We measure your beds, note the current mulch depth and weed situation, and talk about color and edging. You get a free written estimate.

STEP 02

Weed and edge

We remove weeds and debris and cut a clean edge so mulch stays in the bed and grass stays out.

STEP 03

Spread the mulch

Mulch goes down evenly at 2 to 3 inches, topped up where old mulch has thinned, and pulled back from trunks and plant stems.

STEP 04

Clean up

We blow off walks, driveways and patios and walk the finished beds with you.

Good to Know

Before you book

Helps sandy soil

Mulch slows evaporation and breaks down into organic matter over time. That is a big help in sandy Coastal Plain soil that dries out fast in summer.

No mulch volcanoes

Piling mulch against tree trunks traps moisture and invites rot and pests. We keep it off the bark and taper it down around the base.

Don't overdo the depth

Adding a full layer every year on top of old mulch builds up too much. If your beds are already deep, we top dress lightly or remove some first.

“P&F have been my lawn service for 3 years now. They never disappoint. They are always on schedule and they do a great job on my lawn. Because of my lack of time, my flower bed had a lot of weeds growing, and it was too much for me to tackle so that I could plant my flowers for the summer. P&F came and weeded my flower bed and laid down mulch for me. They are very professional and very kind. I would recommend them to anyone who needs lawn service or landscaping done.”

“I honestly couldn't be happier with the landscaping work! He did an amazing job laying down fresh mulch and is currently working on fixing my grass, and everything already looks so much better. Not only is the quality of his work top-notch, but his pricing is honestly unbeatable for the level of service he provides. He's professional, reliable, and clearly takes pride in what he does. I highly recommend him to anyone looking to upgrade their yard without overpaying!”

FAQ

Mulch Service questions

How deep should mulch be?

Two to three inches is the sweet spot. That is enough to hold moisture and block most weed seeds without smothering roots. Going deeper can keep soil too wet and cut off air. If there is still a good layer from last year, a thinner top-up is usually all you need.

When is the best time to mulch in New Jersey?

Spring is the most popular time, once the soil has warmed a bit and beds are cleaned out. Mulching in fall also works well, helping protect roots over winter. Many homeowners pair it with a spring or fall clean-up so the beds are cleared and edged first.

Does mulch stop weeds completely?

Mulch cuts down on weeds a lot, but it is not a force field. It blocks light to weed seeds in the soil, but seeds that land on top can still sprout. Pulling weeds before mulching and keeping a solid 2 to 3 inch layer makes a real difference in how many come back.

Should old mulch be removed before adding new mulch?

Not always. Old mulch breaks down and feeds the soil. If the existing layer is thin, we add on top. If it has built up too deep or has matted into a crust, we loosen or remove some so the new layer sits at a healthy total depth.
