“P&F have been my lawn service for 3 years now. They never disappoint. They are always on schedule and they do a great job on my lawn. Because of my lack of time, my flower bed had a lot of weeds growing, and it was too much for me to tackle so that I could plant my flowers for the summer. P&F came and weeded my flower bed and laid down mulch for me. They are very professional and very kind. I would recommend them to anyone who needs lawn service or landscaping done.”
Shrub Trimming & Bush Removal in South Jersey
Precise pruning to keep shrubs healthy and shaped, plus full removal when it's time for something overgrown or overdue to go.

What to expect from P&F
Overgrown shrubs have a way of swallowing windows, walkways and the front of the house. A good trim brings them back in line. Sometimes, though, a shrub is too far gone, and the better answer is to take it out.
We handle both. Our crew prunes and shapes shrubs and hedges so they look neat and stay healthy, and we remove old or dead shrubs completely, roots included where practical. Homeowners in Haddonfield, Somerdale, Clementon and nearby towns call us for everything from a yearly hedge trim to clearing out a whole foundation planting.
The key to trimming is timing. Cut a spring-flowering shrub in early spring and you cut off this year's blooms. We know which plants to prune when, and we will tell you honestly if a shrub is worth saving. Every job ends with the debris hauled away and the beds raked clean. If a removal leaves a gap, we can talk about replanting it with something that fits the space better and will not need cutting back every few months.
Our shrub trimming/removal process
Walk and assess
We look at each shrub, note what it is and its condition, and talk about the size and shape you want. Then we give you a free estimate.
Plan the timing
Summer bloomers and evergreens can often be trimmed now. Spring bloomers like azaleas and forsythia are best done right after they flower.
Trim or remove
We shape with clean cuts, thin out crowded growth and take out dead wood. For removals, we cut down and dig out the root ball where practical.
Haul away and tidy
All debris leaves with us. We rake out beds and blow off hard surfaces before we go.
Before you book
Prune spring bloomers after flowering
Azaleas, forsythia, lilacs and many rhododendrons set next year's buds soon after they bloom. Trimming them later in the season means fewer flowers.
Hold off in late fall
Heavy pruning in late fall can push tender new growth that gets hurt by frost. In our zone 7 climate, major cutbacks are usually best in late winter or early spring.
Replanting after removal
Once old shrubs come out, it is a good time to refresh the soil and replant. Our landscape installation and mulch services can finish the bed in one visit.

“This team does an awesome job! They are very professional and detail oriented. I have used 5 different companies this year and this is the first to actually listen and cut at the height I requested. Pablo is a true professional that puts the client first and his team is very meticulous and detail oriented. They do “top notch” work. The lawn looks like a lush green carpet. I will be using them for other projects. If I could rate them a 10, I would.”
“I can't say enough good things about P&F Lawn Care. I work for a nonprofit preschool and reached out to David a few months ago as we needed a new lawn service. From day one, they have provided excellent service, proven to be extremely responsive and go above and beyond to accommodate all our needs. I have not hesitated to recommend them to friends as well. Thank you David and P&F Lawn Care for your exceptional work ethic and commitment to providing high quality service! We couldn't be happier!!!”
Shrub Trimming/Removal questions
When is the best time to trim shrubs in New Jersey?
It depends on the shrub. Spring bloomers like azaleas and forsythia should be trimmed right after flowering. Summer bloomers and most evergreens can be shaped in late spring or early summer. Heavy rejuvenation cuts are usually best in late winter. We match the timing to each plant in your yard.
Can an overgrown shrub be cut back hard?
Many can. Shrubs like forsythia, privet and some hollies bounce back from hard cuts, often done over two or three seasons. Others, like many junipers and arborvitae, do not regrow from old bare wood. We will tell you whether a hard cut will work or whether replacement makes more sense.
Do you remove the roots when taking out a shrub?
Where practical, yes. We dig out the root ball so the spot can be replanted. Very large or tangled roots near foundations, walks or utilities may need to be cut back instead. We explain the approach before starting so there are no surprises.
How often should hedges be trimmed?
Most hedges look best with one or two trims a year, depending on how fast they grow and how formal you want them. Fast growers may need more. Keeping the top a little narrower than the base lets light reach the bottom so the hedge stays full.
