“P&F have been my lawn service for 3 years now. They never disappoint. They are always on schedule and they do a great job on my lawn. Because of my lack of time, my flower bed had a lot of weeds growing, and it was too much for me to tackle so that I could plant my flowers for the summer. P&F came and weeded my flower bed and laid down mulch for me. They are very professional and very kind. I would recommend them to anyone who needs lawn service or landscaping done.”
Retaining Walls & Garden Walls in South Jersey
Structural retaining walls and decorative garden walls that tame slopes, add usable space, and frame your landscape with clean lines.

What to expect from P&F
A retaining wall holds back tons of soil. When it is built right, you forget it is doing any work. When it is not, you see leaning, bulging and gaps within a few years.
We build segmental block retaining walls for slopes, raised yards and level patio areas, plus shorter decorative garden walls for raised beds, borders and seating. Every structural wall starts with a proper base trench, compacted aggregate and drainage behind the wall. Taller walls get geogrid reinforcement tied back into the soil.
P&F Lawn Care builds walls for homeowners in Marlton, Haddonfield, Cherry Hill and across South Jersey. Walls often pair naturally with a paver patio or new planting beds, and we can plan them together so everything lines up. Before we build, you get a free, itemized estimate that covers the wall height, block style, drainage and any steps or caps. Our own crew does the digging and building, and when the wall is done, we walk it with you so you can see how drainage and backfill were handled.
Our retaining & garden walls process
Assess the slope
We measure height, length and grade, look at drainage and access, and talk about how you want to use the space. You get a free, itemized estimate.
Build the base
We dig the trench, compact the aggregate base and set the first course level and partially below grade. This is where a wall's lifespan is decided.
Stack, drain and reinforce
Courses go up with drainage aggregate behind them and a perforated pipe at the base where needed. Taller walls get geogrid layers at set intervals.
Cap and walk through
Caps are secured, soil is backfilled and graded, and the site is cleaned up. We walk the finished wall with you.

Construction permits
Under the NJ Uniform Construction Code, a retaining wall 4 feet or taller, measured from the bottom of the footing, needs a construction permit. A stepped series of walls totaling that height can count too.
Drainage is everything
Water pressure behind a wall is what pushes it over. Clean drainage stone and a pipe to carry water away keep that pressure down, even after heavy storms.
HOA and zoning
Walls near property lines or in HOA communities may need approval. We help you gather what you need before building.

“This team does an awesome job! They are very professional and detail oriented. I have used 5 different companies this year and this is the first to actually listen and cut at the height I requested. Pablo is a true professional that puts the client first and his team is very meticulous and detail oriented. They do “top notch” work. The lawn looks like a lush green carpet. I will be using them for other projects. If I could rate them a 10, I would.”
“I can't say enough good things about P&F Lawn Care. I work for a nonprofit preschool and reached out to David a few months ago as we needed a new lawn service. From day one, they have provided excellent service, proven to be extremely responsive and go above and beyond to accommodate all our needs. I have not hesitated to recommend them to friends as well. Thank you David and P&F Lawn Care for your exceptional work ethic and commitment to providing high quality service! We couldn't be happier!!!”
Retaining & Garden Walls questions
Do I need a permit for a retaining wall in New Jersey?
Under the NJ Uniform Construction Code, a retaining wall that is 4 feet or taller, measured from the bottom of the footing, requires a construction permit, and a stepped series of walls totaling that height may also qualify. Your town may have its own zoning rules too. We help you figure out what applies.
Why do retaining walls lean or fail?
Most failures come from poor drainage, a weak or shallow base, or missing reinforcement on taller walls. Water builds up behind the wall and pushes. We build on a compacted base, use drainage aggregate and pipe, and add geogrid where the height calls for it.
What is the difference between a retaining wall and a garden wall?
A retaining wall holds back soil, like on a slope or around a raised patio, and has to be engineered for that load. A garden wall is usually shorter and decorative, used for raised beds, borders or seating. Both look good, but a retaining wall needs more below-ground work.
Can a retaining wall help with a sloped backyard?
Yes. Walls can turn a steep slope into level, usable areas for a lawn, patio or garden, and can help control erosion. Sometimes two shorter terraced walls work better than one tall one. We look at your yard and suggest the layout that fits.
